When I published my book about how adoption built my faith and my family, two friends gave me a necklace that says “Your Story Matters” with a bench charm. If there ever was a piece of jewelry that sums up my perspective as a writer, that’s it.
I believe in seeking God as the author of every story. The stories he’s writing in our lives matter. Sharing them, whether in a conversation while sitting on the porch swing or in a blog post, makes a difference because we are better when we do life together.
In my real life, I’d invite you over for a dinner that is easy to prepare. We may eat off paper plates. Probably there will be crumbs. But I’d ask you questions about your story.
My story has twists and turns and I’m living a life that looks nothing like I imagined. But, you know, I wouldn’t trade the hard days of waiting to have my own way. Of course, there’s been plenty of times I resisted God’s ways because I thought I had a really great plan.
I’m a stereotypical firstborn child married to another firstborn I met in college. Greg took me out for ice cream in 1998 and my life hasn’t been the same since. We have three kids we adopted as newborns – Cate (2007), Ben (2009), and Rachel (2015). {And I’m always happy to share these stories!}
I’m a former newspaper reporter who doesn’t really fit into the stay-at-home mom label I assumed when I walked out of the newsroom in 2007. My family is my priority and I fill random time slots with other things – often bringing my husband and kids along.
When I’m not writing or telling a story, I manage two Kentucky Lake vacation rentals and serve as a board member and the business manager for the wonderful private school my kids attend. Meanwhile, my entrepreneur husband has a law practice in our town. We love to travel, but we love to come home too. We are fans of board games, the Murray State Racers, and parties.
I want storytelling to happen here too. I like to share about books I’m reading, our ordinary days & adventures, and what God is teaching me. Come sit down, pretend we are on the porch swing together, and let’s share our stories. Let’s celebrate and grieve together because our stories matter and we’re better together.

The Fine Print
The stories and pictures published here are mine. I’ve written the words and captured the moments myself, unless otherwise noted. The content published here may not be used without permission.
Sometimes I use affiliate links. That means I’m linking a specific product at a specific online retailer. Should you decide to purchase the said product through my link, I will get a tiny portion of the sale and the price won’t change for you. I will only recommend products I believe are worth having or using and I’ll tell you when I use these links.
Other times I do giveaways. I will always tell you if I bought the item myself or was given it to share with a reader. The rules will be outlined in the individual giveaway posts and the winner{s} will be selected at random. I like to use Rafflecopter for the facilitation of giveaways.
