46 Things

I’ve had this post in the works for a while, but there’s always a lot going on at the beginning of May with two birthdays at our house, Mother’s Day, and Teacher Appreciation Week. Plus this week also includes prom, baccalaureate, Senior Night at church, and graduation. But I have a few spare minutes, mostly because I’m ignoring some laundry, clean and dirty dishes, and all six pets, so I wanted to share a fun post with y’all.
In honor of my birthday on May 3, I’m sharing 46 Things about myself AND sharing a favorite things giveaway at the end.
- I’ve lived in Kentucky all my life.
- Traveling is one of my favorite ways to spend money.
- I also like to spend money on events, like concerts and comedy shows.
- I’ve seen Needtobreathe in concert more than anyone else.
- Dave Matthews Band is probably second. (Hello, college days!)
- I’m the oldest of three and fit all the stereotypes.
- I’ve been married to another firstborn for almost 23 years.
- All of our kids were adopted as newborns through private adoption processes.
- They are babies no more! In fact, they’re 18, 15, and 9.
- I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes when I was almost 25 years old.
- My bachelor’s degree is in print journalism.
- I’ve published three books.
- I think Created for Communion is my favorite.
- Or maybe it was the most therapeutic for me.
- But I really love telling our family’s adoption stories.
- Growing up, my family had four cats at different times.
- I still didn’t think I was a pet person
- Currently, we have two dogs and four cats.
- I was born in 1979.
- I graduated from high school in 1997.
- Murray State University was my college of choice largely because it was four hours from home, but it is still in state for tuition purposes.
- I loved college, but I said I would never live in Murray afterward.
- Not counting the four college years, I’ve lived in Murray since 2003.
- Murray feels like home to me.
- I’ve said never about other things that are very much true in my life: being a stay-at-home mom, sending my kids to private school, and attending a large church.
- God’s plans for my life are infinitely better than my own.
- I learned about palindromes in 1991 and have loved them ever since.
- A couple of years ago, I accidentally became the athletic director at my kids’ school.
- I like sports, even though swimming is the only sport in which I ever competed, not counting elementary basketball and cheerleading.
- I’ve never mowed any yards.
- I taught myself to cook because I can follow a recipe.
- I cooked a whole turkey once and will be fine to never do it again.
- Prepping most meals and cooking is therapeutic for me.
- I don’t feel qualified to make a tweak to a Joanna Gaines’ recipe, but I do it anyway and the Mexican Rice is better that way.
- This year I decided I want to have indoor plants, so I bought myself some and follow directions for their care on an app.
- I also have some outdoor plants.
- Cinnamon is one of my favorite flavors.
- I could eat Mexican food every day of my life.
- Dr Pepper Zero is always my drink of choice.
- I don’t know why Diet Dr Pepper tastes slightly different from Dr Pepper Zero. But I love them both.
- I will choose Diet Coke over Coke Zero and Diet Pepsi every time.
- I used to love to burn mix CDs as gifts.
- Now, I love to make playlists as gifts or to mark seasons.
- I would rather watch a TV series than a movie.
- Dawson’s Creek, West Wing, Survivor, and Paradise are some of my favorite TV shows.
- Greg and I watch Jeopardy! nearly every night.
Giveaway

In honor of my birthday and ALL THE THINGS happening in May, I’m sharing two pretty & practical notebooks, my very favorite One Line A Day journal, some hand lotion, and Burt’s Bees chapstick. It all fits nicely in a box, so this giveaway is open to anyone who lives in the United States. Between now and Wednesday, May 14, leave a moment about something about yourself that I probably don’t know. Just think about what you may share if we were sitting on a porch together.
Happy May days!
