Finding real life in Christ

I decided to follow Jesus more than 28 years ago, but I’m always learning who God created me to be and how who Jesus is. As I learn more about this identity and how it connects to my faith journey, I’m able to walk out truths as a wife, mom, and friend. Everything I do – work, play, travel, rest, parent, encourage, repeat – is filtered through my identity in Christ. Who we are because of what He did is the foundation of the whole Bible.

The Life in Christ Bible has familiar pages full of scripture with additional applications. I’m excited to dive into some of my favorite passages and likely discover new ways to make the Word come alive. I do admit to be partial to the ESV translation, but I’m intrigued to try NKJV and hear familiar truths in a new way.

I love that this Bible contains introductions to each book, margin notes, topical articles, and additional quotes. It also has 1,000 chain-referenced notes connected to 40 themes related to our identity in Christ that run throughout the Bible, 17 charts, and a concordance. I also like the two ribbons for when I’m flipping back and forth between passages.

About the Bible

God has a purpose for your life in this moment. You have a part to play in what He is doing in the world. But knowing why you are here starts with knowing who God says you are. The Life in Christ Bible invites you to embrace your identity and purpose as you discover why you matter – not because of anything you do, but because you are made in the image of God; explore how the gospel of Jesus Christ makes you a new person; and experience how identity changes how you think, speak, work, and move through the world.

Commissioned in 1975 by Thomas Nelson, about 130 international and multi-denominational Bible scholars, church leaders, and lay Christians worked for seven years to create a completely new, modern translation of Scripture that retained the purity and stylistic beauty of the King James Version. The New King James Version is faithful to the original Greek, Hebrew, and Aramaic text, and also provides transparency to the recent research in archaeology, linguistics, and textual studies in the footnotes.

This 1,728-page, hardcover Bible is new from Thomas Nelson (Sept. 3, 2024). Learn more at the publisher’s website.

  1. My first favorite verse is Psalm 37:4 – “Take delight in the Lord and He will give you your heart’s desires.” It is what I clung to during our journey to Penny. I always tell her she is my Psalm 37:4! I have never read the NKJV before, but I just looked it up and it sounds like a version I’d like!
