Finding real rest

“Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.”
Matthew 11:28-30 (The Message)
I know I’ve felt that way and needed to be reminded to let go and trust Jesus, who wants to give me rest. I’ve had trouble shutting off swirling thoughts when I lay down at night. I’ve been awake in the middle of the night thinking about a hard situation. I’ve replayed conversations in my head, wondering if I said enough or too much.
It’s exhausting, yet sometimes all that chaos disrupts sleep and real rest.
Lysa TerKeurst and some of her friends at Proverbs 31 compiled a book of 50 devotions to help clear your mind and bring peace. They’re divided into similar topics and are published in a beautiful bedside book with lovely pictures and quotes throughout.
Clear Mind, Peaceful Heart would make a wonderful gift – for yourself or for a friend you know is longing for quiet rest from this noisy world that too often seeps into our lives. Real rest comes from giving it all – yes, once again – to Jesus, who really does hold the whole world in His hands.

About the book
What lies heaviest on your heart as you lay your head on your pillow? Are paralyzing fear and anxiety stealing tomorrow’s peace? Listen to this invitation from Jesus: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28 NIV). Experiencing this kind of rest won’t come from escapism, more vacation days, or stuffing our feelings. Jesus Himself provides rest to our weary souls. While He may not always fix everything right away, we can fix our thoughts on His Word. In doing this, we can sleep at night with ease knowing that God has it all under control.

Through the pages of Clear Mind, Peaceful Heart by New York Times best-selling author Lysa TerKeurst and her friends at Proverbs 31 Ministries, you will be equipped to:
- Quiet fearful and anxious thoughts that seem to be the loudest before bedtime by incorporating the Bible into your nightly routine
- Find relief from the stress of daily obligations and pressures through 50 encouraging devotions and guided prayers written by women like you

In response to your prompt, I try to “be still and know that He is God” by resting in His presence, but I need to do it much more than I currently do!
Same, same for me!
I find that I need total quiet to study and focus when I’m reading my Bible/doing a Bible study. I like to go outside on my front steps before the kids get up and read my Bible there. I also like to go hiking to quiet the loud world…it helps calm me down and also see Jesus in all of the surroundings. Feet issues have prevented me from hiking much this summer but I hope I can start back soon.
All great ideas! I hope you can get back to hiking soon. I find when school is in session, I will have my study & Bible time after the kids are headed to school.
