There are so many social media channels, and we all have our favorites. I really love Facebook and Instagram. But, honestly, I also really love email, like real email messages from friends. I get lots of emails promoting things and sales. I get emails that require responses because I manage three lake houses. But I really like best when I get emails from friends.
That’s what I want my email list to be for the people who subscribe. I want them to feel like they’re getting emails from a friend who has stories to share and sometimes tells them about books they’d like. I want my email messages to feel like invitations to join me on my virtual porch.
Join me on my {email} porch.
I know, we all get so many emails. So let me also offer to you some insights to my inbox. Gmail is what I know these days. Any emails that I subscribe to from stores are filtered to skip my inbox, labeled as “shopping,” and then remain unread in their own folder until I want to look at them. Same with blogs I subscribe to. They are filtered to skip the inbox, labeled as “blogs,” and then saved until I have time to read them. This is the kind of life tip that sometimes winds up in my real-life porch conversations.
Today I’m sharing a new gift for those who sign up to receive email updates from me. It’s an eight-page document called “How to Serve Your Community with Your Family: A Guide to Living Out Your Faith.” If we were hanging out on my porch – either the virtual one I made into a Facebook group or my actual on in Murray, Kentucky – this is what we’d be talking about because it’s what God’s doing in my own life right now.
And then I’d ask you what God is teaching you in your everyday life or what everyday life tips you have to share. So, tell me, what would you want to talk about if you were hanging on my porch today?

I’ve written about community service in our life a few times this year: When the past & present collide. Serving where you are. How community heals.

Email can be such a tricky thing, can’t it?! I love it, but I hate when things pile up. Fridays (when I’m pretty fried) is when I go through and DELETE! Feels good 🙂
Hope your emails create the atmosphere you long for and readers feel welcome by every word 🙂
Thank you, Becky!
It sounds like you have a great method, Kristin! Thanks so much for offering this for your readers. I hope you all are richly blessed as you walk by faith and serve where you are. It is inspiring.
Thanks for your encouragement, Meghan!
I’m all in! I like emails too.
Thanks, friend! xo
What a great resource for your readers.
I hope so, Maree!
