Expecting summer

June 9, 2017 by Kristin 14 Comments

I was outside from about 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. yesterday. Sure, I made some quick trips inside to get a drink, fetch a towel, and put the youngest down for a nap and then change her back into her swimsuit after she woke up.

Three different friends were here throughout the day, overlapping their stays. Kids swam and later bounced on the trampoline. Adults soaked up the sun on this June day in only the 70s. We broke in my new porch with some good conversation and a couple of meals. Greg did a little mowing once he got home from work and we ate dinner.

It’s not what I expected my Thursday to look like, but after three busy days to start off the week it’s exactly what I needed. The slower pace and catching up with friends while my kids enjoyed the same was so good for our souls.

At the end of the day, our skin was pink and our hearts were full.

In fact, I expect more of the same today.

I’m joining the Five Minute Friday crew for this weekly link up. Kate Motaung offered the prompt EXPECT. Writers set their timer for five minutes and wrote. Join us.

Also, speaking of porches, if you haven’t joined me and my friends on my virtual porch (aka #PorchStories Community on Facebook), I’d love for you to come on over! It’s a place for women to gather with their real-life stories.

Love that porch. We haven’t been in our pool yet. It takes so many days to heat up like I am comfortable in even though some days lately it’s been in the 90s, but we’ve had lots of rain including this morning so it will cool off again.

Sounds like you had a wonderful Thursday. Me too. I mowed around the pool and then kept the twins.

My kids don’t really care how warm the water is, although I’ve been in a few times and it’s close to warm enough. 🙂 I’m glad you had a good Thursday too. Enjoy your weekend!

What a sweet post. It sounds like the perfect day and took me back to when my four daughters were little. Summers were the best time of year- no school, no schedules, just off to the beach or the backyard every single day. I’m your neighbor from FMF.

Looks like a perfect summer day to me, Kristin. There is something about a shaded porch, the sounds of splashes and children’s laughter (and something cool to drink) that is refreshing to the spirit. I’m so glad you had a slower-paced day and time to connect with friends. That’s priceless. Enjoy today too! I’ll dream a little dream of what you’ve got going on today. 😉

Summertime with kids in the house is such a special season. We live on a lake and I was in the water today. I thought it would be chilly, but it was actually pretty nice. Enjoy making memories this summer! I am a big fan of porches and particularly a fan of naps happening there.

That porch looks amazing!! AND a pool – dreamy. No back porch or pool here – but we do enjoy our patio – and summer days (especially spent with friends and fun) are just wonderful!!

Until last spring, I always assumed the yellow fie Until last spring, I always assumed the yellow fields were goldenrod. I learned it’s canola plant — not our state’s flower that’s actually a weed that grows in the late summer and early fall. The seeds from these plants can be crushed to make canola oil and meal.

Whatever it is, I think it’s beautiful. After the dreary colors of winter, it’s a lovely welcome to spring and a reminder of how new life sprouts right where we already are.

Spring Break was good to us. I’m having my usual Spring Break was good to us. I’m having my usual Sunday night mixed emotions - thankful for our time & adventures together as a family, eager to be productive in my quiet house, and sad everyone will head their separate ways tomorrow morning.

I finished my third Spring Break read before we go I finished my third Spring Break read before we got home from the beach. This World War II book is so good! I loved the characters and their stories that unfolded mostly in occupied France.

This is the first book I’ve read by @healeyjane, but I’m glad to know she has other historical fiction about women who made a difference.
