We all need to breathe

February 3, 2017 by Kristin 8 Comments

“In your ocean, I’m ankle deep
I feel the waves crashin’ on my feet
It’s like I know where I need to be
But I can’t figure out …
Just how much air I will need to breathe …”

When I hear the word “breathe,” I immediately think of one of my favorite bands. Needtobreathe’s “Something Beautiful” is a song that weaves its way into my everyday life often. I think about how we’ve seen them live three times and I’d see them three hundred times more.

I’ve been wanting to go to a concert lately. Needtobreathe would always satisfy, but I like live music in general.

Music helps me breathe, which, really doesn’t make sense because I can’t carry a tune and I quit playing the clarinet the week before band camp was supposed to start my freshman year of high school.

With Rend Collective, Ellie Holcomb, and I Am They playing in the background, I’ve found ways to breathe this week. I went on a field trip with one child and took another to a doctor’s appointment two hours away. We’ve eaten carry out and leftovers. I’ve given away two trash bags and a box full of items and dropped off two bags and two bins of recycling. I’ve worked a puzzle with my oldest and read a chapter book with my middle. I’m getting ready to cook food – for us and the friends joining us this weekend, for families who welcomed babies into their homes.

All the everyday ways we find
to catch our breath are beautiful.

{Tweet that.}

“… Hey now, this is my desire
Consume me like a fire, ‘cause I just want something beautiful
To touch me, I know that I’m in reach
‘Cause I am down on my knees, I’m waiting for something beautiful …”

I’m joining Kate Motaung and the Five Minute Friday writing crew. The rules are simple: Set a timer and write for five minutes flat on whatever that week’s prompt is. This week is BREATHE. Just write. Don’t edit. Don’t overthink. And then link up at Kate’s place.

And if you don’t know Needtobreathe’s “Something Beautiful,” you can listen here.

I love that song, but they are actually one band I haven’t seen in concert yet. Ohh and Rend Collective…love them! Funny thing is music often helps me catch my breathe too. But I can’t carry a tune either! Sounds like you had a good week. I’m in the 6 spot th S week.

They’re so good live. And yes, Rend Collective is another favorite around here. Hope you’ve had a good week too. Happy Friday, Tara!

About Me

Telling stories is my therapy and I love sharing them with friends on my porch.

The main characters in my stories are my entrepreneur husband, our eighth-grade girl who never forgets, our have-no-fear fifth-grade boy, and our joy-filled preschool girl. As we live out our stories, we seek God as the author of them all.

Until last spring, I always assumed the yellow fie Until last spring, I always assumed the yellow fields were goldenrod. I learned it’s canola plant — not our state’s flower that’s actually a weed that grows in the late summer and early fall. The seeds from these plants can be crushed to make canola oil and meal.

Whatever it is, I think it’s beautiful. After the dreary colors of winter, it’s a lovely welcome to spring and a reminder of how new life sprouts right where we already are.

Spring Break was good to us. I’m having my usual Spring Break was good to us. I’m having my usual Sunday night mixed emotions - thankful for our time & adventures together as a family, eager to be productive in my quiet house, and sad everyone will head their separate ways tomorrow morning.

I finished my third Spring Break read before we go I finished my third Spring Break read before we got home from the beach. This World War II book is so good! I loved the characters and their stories that unfolded mostly in occupied France.

This is the first book I’ve read by @healeyjane, but I’m glad to know she has other historical fiction about women who made a difference.
