What I am …

November 2, 2016 by Kristin 18 Comments

what-i-am-11-2-16

I’m going to be honest and tell you I don’t have meaningful words for a typical #ThreeWordWednesday right now. I have many fragmented thoughts and ideas to execute. It’s a busy season in my real life, so I thought I’d give you a peek into what’s happening around here.

What I am listening to :: I’ve been into Carrollton’s album, Rend Collective’s new album, and Mat Kearney. I also have been listening to my Story Playlist, which my kids also enjoy.

What I am seeing :: Sunshine and colored leaves, thankfully. Living in the country sure is pretty these days.

What I am reading :: I just started “If I Run” by Terri Blackstock and am still soaking up “Parenting” by Paul David Tripp. (And, hey, today’s the last day to enter to win a copy of “Parenting,” so don’t miss that chance!)

What I am watching :: Each week, the DVR includes “Madam Secretary,” “This Is Us,” “Survivor,” “Blacklist,” “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Notorious,” and “Blue Bloods.” And I’ve been catching up on “Scandal” from a couple seasons ago while I write or eat lunch or whatever.

What I am working on :: Well, I still have a tub full of picture I’d like to hang on my walls. Plus I’m finally spending little bits of time updating my ebook. I’m also researching self-publishing a hard copy of it.

What I am anticipating :: So much fun in November! We’re hosting our church’s annual fall party this weekend, packing shoe boxes as part of Operation Christmas Child, best friends are gathering at our house for our eighth (!!!) annual Thanksgiving with Friends, basketball season begins, Ben turns 7, and we’re going on a Disney cruise. I’m certain there will be many stories to tell!

What I am eating :: I’m excited about this super easy beef tips recipe and hope my family likes it just as much as I do. Also, I’m holding out the weather cools off because I’m really wanting more soup.

What’s going on in your world?

On Wednesday mornings I come upstairs to my office early to send out my weekly email and linkup to my favorites! Of which, YOU ARE ONE! At 7 a.m. EST I know your linkup goes live. I love consistency – and you are! I hear Disney Cruises are bar none, THE BEST. Your life is busy as it should be with three little’s – I love reading about the things you are involved in, the music you listen to, the recipes you enjoy, and what the kids are doing. I kind of feel like a long-distant grandma awaiting a letter from my daughter!!! Silly, huh? You never disappoint. xo

You’re the best, not silly at all. Thanks for your constant encouragement. I’m looking forward to the day we get to hang out in person. 🙂

I agree with Susan, when I am linking up with you, I try to do it around seven or shortly after. I love that part of Wednesday. I admire your consistency. I am also so excited that you are going to publish your book in hard copy. Let me know if you need any help or advice on the process!

Ok what I really need to know is how do you find the time to watch all those great shows during the week? 🙂 I am so grateful for Netflix…we don’t have TV, we just stream Netflix thru the TV. So…Madame Secretary…it KILLS me that I don’t know what’s going on and won’t until this summer. 🙂 Oh word. I do love that show. Have fun at your party this weekend.

My husband and I watch TV after the kids are in bed. Usually a show or two a night. I love myself some TV. 🙂 And I do love Netflix too.

Kristin, I read this post now – several times. Know what I realized? Most days are filled with fragmented thoughts and ideas. This is the beauty of living life. Our God takes them and somehow makes sense of it all.

OK, so I loved discovering we both love Rend Collective’s music. And we share some TV watching in common too 🙂 I am loving “This Is Us” and we are huge Survivor fans and Blue Bloods(!). I had to stop watching “Blacklist” as it literally made me wake up with the sweats, heart pounding and nightmares. Yes, my mind runs away with me 🙂

    Have a great Wednesday!

I love that perspective, and I think you just put into words why I like reading these posts at other people’s blogs. So grateful for the ways God organizes our chaos. And, hooray for a fellow Rend Collective fan. We saw them in concert in April and they were SO GOOD! I wish we were neighbors so we could watch some TV together. 😉 Happy Wednesday to you. Thanks for your friendship here.

Kristin! I haven’t linked here much mainly because I don’t juggle many things well and my life is still in a process of getting into a routine that fits our family but I noticed I had three words for my title that sums up a large season of my life.

I love Rend Collective. We discovered them a handful of years ago and I thought they sounded amazing and very unique! We only have Netflix but I don’t get to watch much. I home school my 3 kids and my husband is over the road so usually I am doing good to merrily tuck the kids in before crashing on the bed LOL. I love this little list you made for us though and I feel like I know you a little better because of it (okay it is just a small part but you know what I mean!)

Life is crazy, for sure! Hope you settle in a routine that works for y’all and enjoy the unexpected adventures along the way! I highly recommend Rend Collective in concert. 🙂 I’m glad you enjoyed the list and feel like you got to know me through it. Thanks for being here.

I love me some Counting Crows! When I saw your post on Facebook (maybe Instagram… I can’t remember much past an hour ago 😉 ) with the lyrics I immediately put on a playlist that happens to contain the song. It’s been a morning filled with songs and dance so thanks for the inspiration!

My entire world is fragmented thoughts and I swear most of the time I am astonished that I can get anything even semi-cohesive written for my blog. I should really try a stream of consciousness post so people can see what my brain is really like. Or maybe that would scare them off, haha!

And we have incredibly similar taste in shows as well 🙂

Counting Crows’ August & Everything After remains one of my all-time favorite CDs. So good. And so many memories flood my mind with their songs. I think stream of consciousness posts are so fun. 🙂 Glad you’ve got some good music in your day and happy to have shared interests with you!

It was fun to read about what you’re up to! My husband and I watch Survivor. I find it so interesting to watch the dynamics of people from different walks of life and how they work together to survive.

My younger daughter and I went on a mother/daughter Disneyland trip in August and had so much fun. Hope you enjoy your trip!

Praying you get lots of shoe boxes filled and sent out!

We took a break from Survivor several years ago, but then we more recently watched some seasons we hadn’t seen on Amazon Prime and now we’re into this new season. It’s a fascinating social game. Thanks for being here with kind words, Cathy!

I enjoyed the feuding sisters story unfolding while filming a realty show about their family’s feuding chicken restaurants in a small Kansas town. Of course, not everything is quite as it seems, so the reality show helps uncover some reality both sisters were missing.

Honestly, this #thirdchild of mine was probably my biggest concern with having Peggy recover from open heart surgery here: I didn’t want Rachel to hug too hard. I didn’t know if she’d understand that her Gran-Gran looks fine on the inside but hurts on the inside. She’s been booted from her room, but she’s been sleeping well on her mattress in the back living room. She’s actually probably not going to know what to do when Peggy moves back home.

For now, we’ll let them make memories together. That’s part of caretaking I hadn’t considered. #bettertogether #weekending #choosingJOY

“The Unhoneymooners” by @christinalauren is a funny romance novel that helped distract my mind from heavy thoughts. It also made me want to go to Maui. The dialogue is delightful, the story of quirky from the get-go, and I definitely found myself rooting for Ethan and Olive.

I also discovered by reading the acknowledgements (possibly my favorite thing about books!) that @christinalauren is the pen name for a writing duo. What fun to write novels with a friend!

As always, I’m happy to accept your recommendations on what to read next. I may also be pondering what friend with whom to write my next book. 📚 #amreading #fiction #authorlife #bookstagram #bettertogether #romcombooks
My friend Delana called before she brought us dinn My friend Delana called before she brought us dinner yesterday and asked if we liked chocolate pie. Um, yes. Turns out both Peggy and I love chocolate pie. Delana gave us chocolate chips cookies too, you know, just in case we didn’t like pie.

My friends are loving on us so well this week with dinner & dessert, obviously. Yes, the food is good, but the way they saw a need and met it is even more gracious. (I wrote a book about gathering & nourishing your people!) Having someone provide dinner has freed up some mental space I’m able to use for taking care of Peggy and parenting my kids, some of whom have needed a little extra love and guidance this week.

Peggy is nine days removed from open heart surgery with quadruple bypass and is doing well. She had a good check up with her primary care provider this morning. We’re thankful for our community of people who continue to pray for us, feed us, and provide help, like today’s impromptu preschool pickup when an appointment ran long. (Thanks, @katie_cunningham85 & @tstanger25!)
