{Giveaway & Review} Sing the Bible

January 9, 2014 by Kristin Leave a Comment

Not long after we got our early digital version of Slugs & Bugs’ “Sing the Bible,” we were listening loudly on the way to school right after Thanksgiving break. I dropped off the kids and pulled away alone in my van. And, yes, I was tempted to keep listening to this kids’ music.

It’s that good, folks.

Each one of us has our favorites. I really love “Two Shirts,” “Be Dressed” and “Romans 8.” I could also listen all day to “Rejoice,” which is Sally Lloyd-Jones reading my favorite verses from Philippians 4. She and the African Children’s Choir are wonderful additions to this CD.

Cate claims it all as her favorite, but she did get excited when her memory verse at school recently (Proverbs 3:5-6) was on the CD. In typical boy fashion, Ben likes the monster song (“Deuteronomy 6:5”) and “Alien.” My husband Greg is also a fan of “Alien,” but he seems to have a good time with them all.

Yes, memorizing scripture, talking about aliens, and hearing monsters and bees sing truth all happens, thanks to Randall Goodgame’s creative ideas and friends.

Here’s a list of the songs:

1. Freedom (Galatians 5:1; John 8:36)
2. To You O Lord (Psalm 25:1-3)
3. Two Shirts (Luke 3:11, Mark 9:35; Matt. 6:19-21)
4. Deuteronomy 6:5
5. Rejoice (Phil. 4:4-8)
6. Trust In The Lord (Proverbs 3:5-6)
7. Be Dressed (Luke 12:35-37)
8. Alien (Deut. 14:21)
9. Old Testament Song
10. New Testament Song
11. Romans 8 (Romans 8:1-2)
12. Love One Another (John 13:34-35)
13. For Us (1 John 3:16)
14. What Is The Book (Psalm 138: 1-18, 23-24)
15. You Are The Christ (Mark 8:27-28, 31-35)
16. He Will Rejoice (Zephaniah 3:17)
17. Love (1 Corinthians 13:1-2, 4-8)
18. Lord’s Prayer

I’ve been excited about this album since Randall Goodgame started talking about it online and when I saw him in November 2012. I didn’t hesitate to throw some support into the KickStarter campaign.

I wondered if my elevated excitement would lead to me being let down by the actual songs. But the exact opposite happened: “Sing the Bible” exceeded my excitement. {Read an official post about its release at The Rabbit Room.}

I say this every time Slugs & Bugs has a new CD, but this is my favorite. And I really mean that. How could anything top having your kids memorize scripture, laughing, hearing sweet African voices, and listening to quality music all at the same time?

And because it’s so good, I’m giving alway a copy! I got five copies with my KickStarter donation, but I had to order more because the four extra copies were gifted. So I ordered more and one of them is for one of you.

Enter with the Rafflecopter below. This giveaway is open to U.S. and Canadian residents. A winner will be randomly selected on Thursday, Jan. 16. And if you don’t win, go buy it.

UPDATED to congratulate Teresa Howes! This CD is coming your way. Hope you and your boys enjoy it!

You can listen some of the other Slugs & Bugs stuff on YouTube. Some of our favorite songs are I'm Adopted, God Made Me, Stop, Under Where? … and really the list could go on. The songs on YouTube have fun videos that go with them.

Here’s to being grateful he’s quick to recover, antibiotics work, our pediatrician is our friend, and he won’t miss the first day of school.

I took a break from my work & chores to read yeste I took a break from my work & chores to read yesterday and I’m so glad I did. I had to stay up late to finish it last night.

First of all, don’t judge this book by its cover, which I don’t like. (I’ve seen another cover for this same book, so I really don’t understand!)

Anyway, I loved the story of first love and loss and reconnection told in the dual now-and-then timeline. I thought the end was a little abrupt, but maybe that’s just because I wanted a little more about Macy and Elliot.

We’ve taken our older kids on short-term mission We’ve taken our older kids on short-term mission trips and hope to go on more. They’ve served locally. We support missionaries. We want our kids to be open to wherever God calls them and incorporating missions into our small-town life is one way we, as parents, have hoped to teach that.

I’m incredibly thankful @hardinbaptistchurch comes alongside us with the same message. The middle and high school @hardinstudents spent the summer looking at different aspects of the Great Commission in Matthew 28:18-20. Youth minister @cbright2 spent the last Sunday of the series looking at nine practical ways that students – yes, even middle and high schoolers – could participate in and pray about going for God.

Chase shared these 9 Ways to Go with students' parents, and I asked him for permission to share them with you because even as an adult I want to remember to live on mission – even right where I am.

“Writing is what makes me happy. Writing, even, “Writing is what makes me happy. Writing, even, is how I feel I contribute to the world. Reminding people of what’s important. Letting them escape the harsh parts of life, even if it’s just for a few hours. Helping them feel happiness through watching happily-ever-afters unfold. Remembering truths. Recalling their self-worth. Loving others. Living well. Learning. I want to do that.”

And, let’s be honest, love stories about writers make me happy too. “Meet Me in the Margins” was cute, predictable, and a good way to escape for a little while.

This is the only picture I took tonight. You can’t tell, but there was a porch full of people talking, more kids playing basketball, and another group around the kitchen table. We covered a lot of ground in our conversations. Nobody cared that I didn’t have hot dog buns or tomatoes for the burgers. I ran out of paper plates and am happy to hear the dishwasher cleaning all the “real” plates. I’m grateful for come-as-you-are community, where we share real life.
