{#TellHisStory} Adopting community

August 22, 2013 by Kristin Leave a Comment

I believe in community. And, truthfully, I need people.

This adoption process has been the most emotional one yet. And it’s barely going. I don’t even really want to call it a process because that seems to imply it’s going somewhere. The last couple weeks have included emotional ups and downs as we try to take steps toward growing our family.

See those three sweet faces above? It’s them and their parents who have gotten me through. It’s my friend who is recovering from major surgery yet praying for me. It’s our families who ask what we need them to do. It’s the real conversations and hard questions.

Community has sustained me.

We aren’t sure what our next step will be after meeting some road blocks on the path we were on. I’ve learned much and thought about questions nobody has ever posed to me before.

Our first two adoptions are seeming so easy and simple. It’s never gone unnoticed that the Creator of the universe orchestrated bringing Cate and Ben into our family. Their stories are my favorite chapters in our story and I’ll gladly tell them again and again. I’ve sensed for quite some time that God is doing something different with this one.

I don’t know what that something is. I don’t know if we’ll bring home a 14-month-old boy or another newborn baby. I’m not even sure whether we’ll use an agency or proceed with a third independent adoption.

But I do know God is already changing my heart through this process that is barely a functioning process at this point.

And I do know God has surrounded me with people who pray. And show up with muffins and Diet Dr Pepper on a morning I had cried my eyes out and not eaten breakfast yet. And text scriptures to me.

We are hoping to expand our family through adoption. But, truth is, we hope to bring a child into our community that truly knows how to love.

    Kristin, I always love how you share your heart. It's a joy to read how you have a community that is supporting you and sustaining you through this process. It never ceases to amaze me how God has used something I was once so afraid of to heal me in so many ways. What I love most about this post is your trust in God. Warms my heart. I will pray for you my friend. Thank you for sharing. {hugs}

So many of my Facebook friends shared lovely pictu So many of my Facebook friends shared lovely pictures of their daughters yesterday for the completely made-up National Daughters Day. Regardless, today I'm all in my feelings about my daughters.

They're 16 and 8 right now. Both of their classes have been studying ancient Egypt and had a joint feast today. Sweet, huh?

BUT THEN TIMEHOP GOT ME! Apparently, NINE years ago today, when Cate was a second-grader, her class had an Egyptian feast. I think about a particular picture of Cate and her friend Kilee from that day AND THEN IT CAME UP IN MY TIMEHOP TODAY. Facebook also told me that same day nine years ago, Monica and I became Facebook friends. We probably were at the Egyptian feast and decided we'd be friends because our girls were friends. Y'all, God has been so good to me through my friendship with Monica. Our families click in a special way with our three sets of same-aged kids, most of whom have been adopted.

Anyway, my daughters. They're lovely, funny, and smart. I love that Cate helped Rachel with her Egyptian eye makeup this morning and made her a Nutella and banana sandwich. I love that they got to have a party today at school together. I love that even though they're eight years apart, they're sisters.

I hope you enjoy these pictures as much as I do. 💛

“Between Two Strangers” by @katewhite_author had such an intriguing plot that pulled me right in. I was close to figuring out how it was all intertwined, but I didn’t quite get there through all the twists. Good, quick read!

You’re always making friends, asking about our next adventure, wanting to know what’s next, and talking if you’re not singing. You’re the joy our family needed in 2015 and you continue to be the one who makes us laugh and love better than we did before we knew you.

... You ask a million questions, know the words to thousands of songs, have so many ideas, and still try to sneak into my bed at night. You say I’m the best snuggler in this family. I’ll take it – and your hugs and love, although the middle of the night will never be my favorite time.
