{God-sized Dreams} Stop delaying, start doing

February 19, 2013 by Kristin 6 Comments

I’m probably the only momma around who goes to the grocery store and comes home with ideas for a book.  But, really, that’s been happening since my 5 1/2-year-old girl {who told someone she’s almost 6 … um, May is still a few months away!} wasn’t even walking, much less asking to push the kid-sized cart.

I got these ideas down little at a time. And then I shared with some friends, mentors and a stranger who becoming a friend. I’ve heard back from some of these people and their words have helped re-shape my idea.

From Holley Gerth, who is spurring a community of women on toward their dreams: The most dangerous word for a God-sized dream is “someday.” How can you start implementing your God-sized dream {even in a small way} right where you are? You’ve just opened up some space in your life and you’ll need a proactive plan or that space will get claimed by something other than your God-sized dream – guaranteed. Write a post about what you can stop delaying and start doing.

But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.
{Isaiah 40:31}

In her book, “You’re Made for a God-sized Dream,” Holley Gerth mentions this verse and then points out all the verbs. But none of them is sitting. Yes, waiting is an attitude God sometimes asks us to embrace. But not doing anything isn’t an option when God has called you to something or someone.

I’ve been thinking about what they readers have my rough draft have said. You know, this one part doesn’t really flow with the rest what you’ve got. What if you added …? How about letting the story span more time? Could you expand the idea of grocery shopping?

Did you catch what I said? I’ve been thinking …

It’s true. I have these ideas in my head. Perhaps I should just start implementing them on the pages instead of keeping in my cluttered mind. Stop delaying and start doing. Stop thinking and start writing. Hope. Soar. Run. Walk. Write. One story at a time. One word at a time. Dreams happen when steps are taken toward them, discerning when to say “no” and when to say “yes.” So, let’s go …

Tuesdays are God-sized Dream days around here and I’m linking this post along with many, many other dreamers on Holley Gerth’s blog. You’ll find encouragement, truth and community there. Yes, that’s an affiliate link for Holley’s book, but I’m reading it and love it all on my own. Want more? Subscribe to get “Insights” in your inbox. Like 152 Insights on Facebook. I always love stopping by your space. 🙂 I think it's sometimes so difficult to take those little ideas that seem scattered, but there are days when I write them down anyway…trusting and hoping that they'll come together eventually! Blessings to you, friend, as you continue to pursue this dream! 🙂

Would you believe God gave me another idea today while lunching with a friend?! Of course, always keeping us on our toes, that God we serve!

One question: Were you wearing your buddy hat when you wrote this post? Wink-wink. So glad to share this journey with you, girl. 🙂

Exciting!! I love what you said: "one story at a time". That's true for all of us ~ one step, one action, one leap forward at a time.

Happy, happy 70th birthday to my wonderful mother- Happy, happy 70th birthday to my wonderful mother-in-law. We all are especially happy to celebrate her life this year after her recent quadruple bypass heart surgery and recovery. 🎉 #weekending #TeamTaylor #birthdaygirl
A new book by a favorite author is always a welcom A new book by a favorite author is always a welcomed thing, and @kristinhannahauthor didn’t disappoint. Plus it was my @bookofthemonth pick.

#TheFourWinds is set during some sad years with the Dust Bowl, migration to California, and the Great Depression. Yet this is a story of hope and belonging. Hope kept a mom and her two kids going, despite circumstances that destroyed. Hope led to this mom finding her voice, recognizing her worth, and discovering love that lasts.

Seven weeks after quadruple bypass heart surgery, Seven weeks after quadruple bypass heart surgery, my mother-in-law moved home today. We were happy to care for her and we are thrilled she’s doing so well.

I knew she was faithful and strong before, but watching her recovery from open heart surgery convinced me even more of her steadfastness and courage.

Often I don’t want the weekend to end or the sea Often I don’t want the weekend to end or the season to change, but I’m looking forward to Monday after three weeks of quarantine and sickness then snow. I’m looking forward to the snow melting away and eager for spring to bloom.

I’m grateful for health and family and home and a fresh start. A walk through the melting snow with the sun shining and temperatures in the 50s was a sweet spot today. So was gathering with friends we hadn’t seen in too long after church.

Just a few days ago I felt defeated and weary. Now I’m feeling ready and hopeful. Transitions can be rough, but ultimately I’m thankful for new mercies and new seasons.

We all benefitted from getting outside today. Hone We all benefitted from getting outside today. Honestly, I was so bundled up I got a little warm because somehow I now live where 30 degrees (that feels like 21) is a heat wave. These three help me remember to loosen up and enjoy the moment. ❄️

I'm glad I was able to contribute to "Songs of Hop I'm glad I was able to contribute to "Songs of Hope (Vol. 2)", which was compiled by fellow writers @kerilynnsnyder & @sarah_e_frazer. This devotional spends 31 days in the Psalms.

I share about Psalm 68 and how God built a sanctuary for me at our house in the country and how I want to share that with others. I end the devotional with these questions and a prayer:

"Songs of Hope" offers encouraging truth to bring hope to your weary soul. The devotional is a digital product so you receive the PDF immediately and can read it on any device. I ended 2020 saying it had been a weird year, but, I ended 2020 saying it had been a weird year, but, truthfully, the first six weeks of 2021 have been weird too. Weird seems like a weak word, but I can’t think of another. These past six weeks haven’t been bad, have included plenty of great moments, and shifted so many things in our house. Through it all, my best friend Jaclyn and I haven’t gotten to hang out much.

I’m thankful Greg picked up her and her girls in his four-wheel drive truck yesterday after his short day at the office. We bundled up for some time outside, the kids had legit snow cones, we combined food to make dinner, and various people played various games. Jaclyn and her girls went back to their house this morning, but we are all thankful for old friends & new memories.
