Sarah Palin

September 2, 2008 by Kristin Leave a Comment

I admit, I like that she’s a woman. But I wouldn’t vote for a candidate — at any level — just because she’s a woman. Hillary, for instance, wasn’t at the top of my personal presidential hopefuls. I don’t vote just for a party either. I like to think I vote for the person. In fact, one time I didn’t vote for the candidate with whom I agreed with more when it came to social issues and tax philosophy because I didn’t like the way he treated people.

Anyway, politics. It’s an interesting game.

And this presidential election is getting even more interesting, to me, thanks to John McCain’s pick.

Sarah Palin was a mom first. Then she was a council member, then small-town mayor and then governor. As an Alaskan, she thinks we should drill in her home state for oil. She may not have a ton of “experience,” but she does run a state and has a family. While I can’t imagine doing those two things, I applaud her for trying to make a difference.

And she has more “experience” than Obama. He is running to be commander-in-chief of our military during war time (among other roles). Palin just MIGHT have to fulfill that role.

But she will help shape policy and set a tone for our country. I like how she comes across. And I like how she isn’t a veteran politician who has grown comfortable in a D.C. home.

Oh, and, so what if her teen-age daughter is pregnant. I learned a long time ago you can’t judge a person by the actions of those they love. At least the family values the life of a baby, who isn’t at fault for parents’ not-so-smart choices.

I hate politics of any kind, and I was thinking this was going to be yet another boring blah blah democrat, blah blah republican election process. But after hearing McCain’s announcement of his choice for VP, I got excited and have stayed excited about the elections since! I think Palin is AWESOME and I’m going to be looking forward to voting this year for sure! 🙂

I agree with the politics being a frustrating game and I am with you on not just voting for a party but for the right person. The sad part is none of us really “know” any of the four candidates. People are saying they love Palin or love Obama but how can we REALLY say that when we honestly don’t know them. The convention hype was too much for me – I would love to have coffee with all four of them and really hear what they stand for. I am officially an undecided voter and intend to work really hard these next few months reading about all four people so that I can make and educated decision about why or why not I will vote for one or the other. I really wish everyone would do that! I kinda wish the ticket was McCain and Obama (that would make for an interesting combo)….ha!

About Me

Telling stories is my therapy and I love sharing them with friends on my porch.

The main characters in my stories are my entrepreneur husband, our ninth-grade girl who never forgets, our have-no-fear sixth-grade boy, and our joy-filled kindergarten girl. As we live out our stories, we seek God as the author of them all.

She fed animals, played by herself, made friends, and played some more — for 3 1/2 hours. I found an Adirondack chair and finished my third book of the trip.

Nothing like starting a road trip by finishing an Nothing like starting a road trip by finishing an @elinhilderbrand book. I’d held off reading “Winter in Paradise” because the premise that a father’s death exposes his secret life hits way too close to home. But, really, fiction books can be therapeutic.

I appreciated the raw emotions of a wife, two brothers, and others learning of tragedy and processing the ripples of that moment. Of course, who doesn’t love a story set in the U.S. Virgin Islands? AND it’s this the first in a three-book series, and I’ve got the next two ready to go on my Kindle.

My kids had a yearbook signing party today. And ki My kids had a yearbook signing party today. And kids today don’t know how to sign yearbooks. Cate, my rising sophomore, says it’s because they have phones to take photos and text each other. She’s probably right.

But the whole conversation and experience took me down memory lane. So much so, I got these yearbooks from my high school days off my bookshelf and read notes. Admittedly, I can’t remember a few people who proclaimed what a great friend I was and I never called some people who wanted to KIT — that’s Keep In Touch, kids — and left their phone numbers (and pager number in one instance!)! 🤣

I also proceeded to text the three friends (well, really, five, because two girls married two guy friends of mine) with whom I do actually KIT. I have their numbers saved in my iPhone, thankfully. We have made grown-up memories together. We message and try to see each other. My husband knows their maiden names.

Truly, how has it been 25 years since I graduated from Oldham County High School? I’m sitting on the porch now, rememebering how faithful God has been and thinking about how high school seems like a lifetime ago but also like yesterday. 💙

HAGS, everybody!

Living with a secret is all Eve Elliot knows. Her life unravels when she confesses to what she knows and there are ripple effects for her husband and two daughters. I thought I had it all figured out and then there was another surprise right at the end!
