The Sounds of “Private Practice”

November 1, 2007 by Kristin Leave a Comment

This is the third time I’ve come down to the computer after I watch “Private Practice” because I need to read the lyrics to a song that played in the closing scenes of an episode. Third time. And the show has only been on six times.

Tonight it is “All We Are” by Matt Nathanson. And it goes a little like this …

… All we are, we are
All we are, we are
And every day’s a start
At something beautiful

And in the end, the words don’t matter
Cause in the end, nothing stays the same
And in the end, the dreams just scatter and fall like rain

The two others before that …

1. “Save You” by Matthew Perryman Jones

…Watch it all go by
Was it really true
Is that what it was
Was that really you
I’m Looking back again
I’m tracing back a friend
You said it was a miss
Was it just in my head

And so help me decide
Help me to make up
Make up my mind
Wouldn’t that save you
Wouldn’t that save you
Wouldn’t that save you …

2. “Same Mistake” by James Blunt

So while I’m turning in my sheets
And once again, I cannot sleep
Walk out the door and up the street
Look at the stars beneath my feet
Remember rights that I did wrong
So here I go

Hello, hello

There is no place I cannot go
My mind is muddy but
My heart is heavy, does it show
I lose the track that loses me
So here I go …

I’m not calling for a second chance,
I’m screaming at the top of my voice,
Give me reason, but don’t give me choice,
Cos I’ll just make the same mistake again …

And maybe someday we will meet
And maybe talk and not just speak
Don’t buy the promises ’cause
There are no promises I keep,
and my reflection troubles me
so here I go …

And, so you know, the show keeps growing on me too. I have to remember that just because it’s a spin-off of “Grey’s Anatomy” doesn’t make it “Grey’s Anatomy: L.A.” Nope. New show. Addison is Addison. But she’s growing as a person and as she does, the show grows on me. And, yes, I like the idea of Addison and Pete.

I’m really liking it too. Sometimes I feel like too many of the patients have sad stories but last week was good. I haven’t seen THIS weeks or Grey’s – GASP!!! Can’t wait – oh and I love all the songs both shows play!

About Me

Telling stories is my therapy and I love sharing them with friends on my porch.

The main characters in my stories are my entrepreneur husband, our eighth-grade girl who never forgets, our have-no-fear fifth-grade boy, and our joy-filled preschool girl. As we live out our stories, we seek God as the author of them all.

My husband, mother-in-law, and I may have liked it more than the kids, but we also were glad for some clean entertainment to share with the youngsters in the house.

“Dolphin Island” is a heartwarming feature film about 14-year-old Annabel who lives with her fisherman grandfather on an island paradise. They operate a nonprofit marine research and conservation center. She is surrounded by an extended family of loving but quirky neighbors and her best friend, a dolphin named Mitzy.

Everything changes when her maternal grandparents arrive with a shifty lawyer to bring her back to New York. Annabel and her friends navigate these circumstances to prove that love conquers all.

As February ends and March begins, we are thankful As February ends and March begins, we are thankful for a house on higher ground, where we’ve been sheltered from so much this month. We’re thankful there’s another way out, and the school taxi commute is only about five minutes longer than usual. We’re thankful for health and each other and God’s goodness and provisions even when – perhaps especially when – we have no idea what’s around the next corner.

#TheFourWinds is set during some sad years with the Dust Bowl, migration to California, and the Great Depression. Yet this is a story of hope and belonging. Hope kept a mom and her two kids going, despite circumstances that destroyed. Hope led to this mom finding her voice, recognizing her worth, and discovering love that lasts.
